Flying from Dubai International? You'd better charge your phone first

Passengers travelling through Dubai International Airport could miss their flights if their phone batteries go flat, Emirates airline warns.

Airport staff are switching on all electronic devices, including laptops and tablets, as part of tough new checks introduced in the wake of a US Government security alert issued two weeks ago.

In a statement on its website, the UAE-based airline said: “All those travelling to USA, Canada and the UK are required to switch on their electronic devices at the Dubai International airport or risk being denied access to fly.

“Please ensure that your electronic devices have sufficient power before reaching the airport. This is part of enhanced security measures required by the authorities of these countries.”

The measure also affects passengers transiting via the UAE, who will have to ensure their gadgets don’t run out of juice before they arrive.
