KATIE has fired back at media speculation that she is meek and subservient, happy just to be ‘Mrs Tom Cruise’, insisting in a new interview with The New York Times that she’s a strong, independent woman.
Setting the record straight
“I make strong choices”
“There’s a huge misperception about me in the press that I have just become this wallflower, that I am this woman who doesn’t have any control over her life whatsoever,” blasts the 29-year-old actress. “And that is pretty wrong actually. From the very beginning, I’ve made some choices in my life that have been very strong.”
“My parents are part of our life”
Responding to claims that Tom has driven a wedge between Katie and her parents, thanks to his controlling ways, Katie insists her family are as much a part of her life as always.
“My life has expanded. My family and friends are all part of this bigger life,” she assures.
“Tom has made me feel amazing”
Despite media accusations that her whirlwind romance and marriage to Tom was a sham, Katie insists that she was smitten with her hubby as soon as they met.
“When I met Tom I was completely in love and, yes, I admired him as I was growing up – I mean, he’s Tom Cruise,” she gushed. “He was so warm and I thought, ‘Wow! You can be a superstar and a human being.’ He made me feel so amazing.”
“I don’t pay attention to gossip”
Blasting recent reports that she is using her two-year-old daughter Suri as a prop for photo ops, Katie insists she’s far too busy to pay attention to what is written about her.
“I have too much to do,” she says. “I’m a mom and an actress with a play to do every night. I can’t pay attention to all that noise.”
Katie says the media wrongly portray her as a “wallflower” in her marriage to Tom Cruise.
JEN is so sick of her media persona – a fictional character so alien to herself that she has dubbed herself “Hannah Montana,” (after the split-personality Disney TV show) – that she has finally answered her critics in a candid new interview with US Magazine Entertainment Weekly.
“Everyone’s got an opinion. I wish they didn’t,” she fumed. “That’s how I feel. There’s Hannah Montana – and then there’s me.”
Setting the record straight
“They don’t know anything”
Jen fired back at New York Times critic Caryn James, more than two years after she questioned Jen’s acting ability in a damning review, which asked, “How did [Jen’s] career go haywire so fast?”
Clearly still seething, Jen ranted, “It was so venomous. It was like, ‘Who f****** s*** in her Wheaties (cereal)?’ How do these people get the opportunity to just spew s***? They don’t know anything!’’
“I really want brad to do well”
“It’s my history,” she says about her divorce. “It’s my memory. That’s all it is to me: something that happened, something that was really quite poignant and for the good in the long run.”
With Jen’s new flick Marley And Me released on the same day as Brad’s new movie, she dismissed rumours of a box-office battle with her ex, saying, “I want [Brad’s movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button] to do great. I’ve seen about an hour of the film. It’s amazing. Amazing.”
“I’m not Catty”
Jen also scoffed at her rumoured ‘war’ with Ange, which spawned the sale of ‘Team Aniston’ T-shirts.
“I can see how that would be flattering,” she says. “But that divide-and-conquer thing is stupid. It’s just catty. I’m not catty.’”
She has also retracted the comments she made in last month’s Vogue, where she dubbed Angelina “uncool”, insisting the remark was taken out of context.
“Good god. You have to laugh at it all at the end of the day, I was just surprised that Vogue would go so tabloid. I was bummed,” she revealed.
“Pregnancy rumours are hysterical”
“Oh my god, it’s hysterical!” says Jen on the recent tabloid speculation that she’s expecting a child with John Mayer. “It’s almost going to take away the fun from being able to say one day, ‘I’m pregnant!’ Everyone will be like, ‘Yeah, right.’ It’s the boy who cried wolf. Stop stealing my thunder, mother*******!”
Though she admits she is looking forward to starting a family – “I feel like that’s in my future and I’m on the verge of it in some way—or
it’s something I long for.”
A vocal Jen says she wants the best for ex-husband Brad – but is that the truth, or yet more PR spin?
