Celebs Get Set for Fashion’s Night Out!
We love celebrities, we adore fashion and we never get bored of shopping – so we can’t wait for Fashion’s Night Out, with the first one happening 6 September, to coincide with the start of New York Fashion Week. Last year’s FNO was one of the biggest events on the fashion calendar with so many big-name designers, models and celebs running around that it was the next best thing to blagging a coveted seat on the ‘Frow’ (that’s what fashion types call the front row seats at the runway shows, donchaknow). Here’s our rundown of what’s happening this year around the globe from the Big Apple, to London, the glam streets of Paris and beyond. See you there!
FNO In New York
The New York events are the most celebtastic. Last year we spotted Rachel Bilson shopping for sunglasses, Usher hanging out with Justin Bieber and Joe Jonas singing at Saks! Amazing. This time around, there are events to suit every budget, from karaoke at Michael Kors to Lana Del Rey performing at H&M! If nothing else, snap up a commemorative T-shirt or tote bag – all proceeds go to the New York City AIDS Fund.
WHO’S GOING? A-listers are making appearances all over the city: Kim and Kourtney Kardashian are spending the evening at their SoHo store DASH; Biebs is hanging out with models at Dolce & Gabbana; SJP is going to be at – where else? – Manolo Blahnik; Leighton Meester is heading to Tiffany & Co, and celeb stylist Rachel Zoe will be handing out fashion advice at Bloomingdale’s. As if that’s not enough, Bey’s sis Solange Knowles is set to DJ at Diane von Furstenberg’s Washington Street store and Azealia Banks is performing at MAC Cosmetics on Broadway.
WHAT TO BUY: If your budget can’t quite stretch to a classic Chanel jacket, why not treat yourself to one of the FNO collections of matching lip and nail duos, which will be sold at all Chanel boutiques commencing 6 September.
FNO IN LONDON
Word is, FNO in London is going to be bigger and better than ever – and that means it’s going to be amazing. Last year Rupert Sanderson set up a Seventies-themed roller disco in his store, cheated wife Liberty Ross was DJing in Dior, Gwyneth Paltrow was the star guest at Coach, and model Laura Bailey co-hosted a dance-off at the Stella McCartney store. How can you beat that?
WHERE’S THE PARTY? The evening will kick off in style with an opening party at the Mulberry store, where shoppers can pick up a special FNO tote and tuck into traditional fish and chips served from a van parked outside. Previous guests have included Alexa Chung, Kirsten Dunst and Kristen Stewart, so it’s all set to be celeb central. There’s also a fashion fun-fair at department store Liberty, a party at Tiffany & Co and live entertainment at the luxe Vivienne Westwood store.
WHAT TO BUY: It’s more a case of what not to buy! Christian Louboutin is launching the dangerously high Dragon Tattoo shoe and Alexander McQueen is giving shoppers a preview of the new wrap scarf bracelet. If you’re looking for a bargain, Orla Kiely is launching her collection for Uniqlo – or you could pick up London’s official Fashion’s Night Out T-shirt, designed by Jonathan Saunders, with all proceeds going to domestic violence charity Refuge.
FNO GOES GLOBAL…
This year, FNO is taking place in Vogue magazine’s 19 publishing territories, from 6 to 20 September. Here’s the global schedule...
6 September: US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Russia, Mexico, Australia and Korea. In previous years, Fashion’s Night Out in the US has been celebrated in more than one city at a time – and that will continue this year, with high-profile events in LA, where Nicole Richie, Lauren Conrad and Tori Spelling have been lined up to make appearances, and in Miami and Chicago, where Kelly Osbourne is tipped to appear at Macy’s. In Paris, it’s an invitation-only event. How chic.
7 September: China and India. In India, it’s all happening at DLF Emporio, a luxury shopping mall in New Delhi, where pop-up store Vogue Loves will sell the new season’s must-have designs.
8 September: Taiwan and Japan.
10 September: Brazil joins in on the fun.
13 September: Portugal, Turkey and The Netherlands continue the party. In Turkey, the main events are happening in Istanbul, and in Sweden, stores including Acne, By Malene Birger and Marc by Marc Jacobs are going to make it a night to remember in Stockholm.
20 September: Greece hosts the final night of FNO!
The FNO public service announcement has brought together some of the biggest names in music and fashion. And that bloke from Glee…
A team of A-listers, including Usher, Justin Bieber, Olivia Wilde, Taylor Swift, Victoria Beckham and Solange Knowles have joined forces to remind us to “do some good and have some fun” by hitting the shops on 6 September. They’ll all wear official FNO T-shirts and tell us just how amazing this year’s event is going to be, set to a soundtrack of Madonna’s Dress You Up, performed by Glee’s Darren Criss (who plays Blaine).
In the vid, Olivia Wilde worries about what she’s going to wear, Usher and Marc Jacobs promise that they’re going to be there, and Biebs says he’s definitely going because, “who doesn’t want to meet models, right?”. Hmm, we’re guessing Selena Gomez might have something to say about that…
