Celebville was rocked to its core when a serious plot to kidnap and kill British singer Joss Stone was foiled by police, sending all celebrities into a major frenzy with stars including Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt admitting they fear for their lives, and Brad even confessing he stays awake at night to ensure his family is "safe".
Two suspects were arrested by police outside Joss’ home after a car was seen circling her property. A search of the vehicle uncovered a cache of swords, rope, hammers, a body bag, maps of the area and notes referring to Stone. Officers graded the inquiry as a conspiracy to rob and murder.
The foiled plot is a stark reminder of the downsides to fame, and here we highlight other cases in which celebrities have been left fearing for their lives…
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
The A-list couple and their growing brood are no strangers to threats. Brad claims he struggles to sleep at night as he worries too much about their safety, admitting, “I have the concerns a dad has. Is everyone safe? These are the things that keep me awake.” The superstar couple were once the centre of a Dhs353m plot to kidnap adopted son Pax Thien in 2007. Ange’s security learned of the plan and the couple consequently increased their entourage. Still wary they recently rented a fortified 18th century palace, built to protect the owners from pirates.
Mike is understandably protective over his son and daughter with Catherine Zeta Jones. The couple allegedly hire ex-special forces members to protect their family. But we can’t blame the actor from being overly cautious for when he was six-years-old he was the victim of an attempted kidnapping outside actor dad Kirk Douglas’ home. Luckily he managed to escape their clutches.
The Beckhams are popular targets for kidnappers. Vic’s been a victim many times. In 2000 detectives moved the designer to a safe house after discovering a plot to kidnap her and and son Brooklyn. That same year, while rehearsing for the Brit Awards, a red dot appeared on Vic’s chest. She was rushed off stage. The would-be assassin was never caught!
