Steve started his career as a
stand-up comedian. He found fame as an actor in the 1980s with roles in films
including The Jerk, Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid, The Man with Two Brains,
Roxanne, Parenthood and Father of the Bride. He starred in the 2009 film It’s
Complicated and has also written plays and novellas, including Shop Girl, which
was made into a film in 2005.
In the late 1970s he was in a
relationship with actress and singer Bernadette Peters. He was married to actress
Victoria Tennant from 1986 to 1994 and, on 28 July 2007, he married writer Anne
Stringfield after dating for three years.
In 2009, an article in The
Guardian newspaper listed Steve Martin as one of the best actors never to
receive an Oscar nomination.
