Career: Nelly shot to fame in 2001 with the release of her debut album, Whoa, Nelly!, and the single I’m Like A Bird. Her second album, Folklore, was released in 2003, but wasn’t as successful. She changed direction for her third album, Loose, casting off her folky roots for a hip-hop and R&B sound and a sexier image. The album became the most successful of her career, producing the singles Maneater and Promiscuous.
Relationships: Nelly had a long-term relationship with Jasper Gahunia and their daughter, Nevis, was born on 20th September 2003. They split up in 2005. On 19th July 2008 she married Cuban sound engineer Demacio Castellón, with whom she worked on Loose.
FYI: As a teenager, Nelly performed in a Portuguese marching band.
