Career: Jack got his first big acting break in the 1969 road movie Easy Rider in which he played hard-drinking lawyer George Hanson. He went onto appear in films Five Easy Pieces and Chinatown. In 1975 he won a Best Actor Oscar for his role in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and in 1980 he starred in horror film The Shining, which remains one of his most significant roles. He won another Best Actor Oscar for Terms of Endearment and he worked solidly through the 80s in films including The Postman Always Rings Twice, Reds, Prizzi’s Honour, The Witches of Eastwick and Ironweed. In 1989 he played the Joker in Batman, a film which earned him an estimated $60million. His more recent films include About Schmidt, Something’s Gotta Give and The Departed.
Relationships: Jack had a sixteen-year relationship with actress Angelica Huston, which ended in 1989 when it emerged that actress and model Rebecca Broussard was pregnant with his child. They went on to have two children together: Lorraine Nicholson, born in 1990, and Raymond Nicholson, born in 1992. He has two other children, Jennifer Nicholson, born in 1963 with Sandra Knight, and Honey Hollman, born in 1981 with Winnie Hollman. He has also been linked with actresses Michelle Pfeiffer and Lara Flynn Boyle.
