Career: In 1985, Halle won the Miss Teen All-American Pageant, and the following year she was the first runner up in the Miss USA Pageant. She then became a model, and started her acting career with roles in the TV series Living Dolls and Knots Landing. She got her big break in the Spike Lee film Jungle Fever, and roles in Strictly Business, Boomerang and The Flintstones followed. She won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her performance in the film Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, and she became the first African-American to win the Best Actress Oscar for her role in the 2001 film Monster’s Ball. She has also appeared in the films Die Another Day, X-Men, X2, Gothika and Catwoman.
Relationships: Halle has been married twice. She married former baseball player David Justice on 1st January 1993, and their divorce was finalised in 1997. She married musician Eric Benét on 24th January 2001 and later adopted his daughter, India. They separated in 2003 amid rumours of his infidelity, and their divorce was finalised in January 2005. In November 2005 she started dating French-Canadian model Gabriel Aubry after they met on a Versace photoshoot. Their daughter, Nahla Aubry, was born on 16th March 2008. The couple separated in April 2010 and began a custody dispute soon after. She began dating French actor Olivier Martinez, who she met on the set of Dark Tide, in July 2010.
FYI: Her birth name was Maria Halle Berry, but was legally changed to Halle Maria Berry in 1971. She was named after Halle’s department store in Cleveland, Ohio.
