Career: In 1986 Gwen’s brother Eric invited her to sing with his band, No Doubt. The band was signed in 1991, but they weren’t successful until the release of their third album, Tragic Kingdom, in 1995. The album sold more than 16 million copies worldwide, received several Grammy nominations and the single Don’t Speak led the US end-of-year airplay chart. Gwen has released two successful solo albums, 2004’s Love. Angel. Music. Baby and The Sweet Escape in 1996. In 2004 she launched her own fashion line, L.A.M.B., which is popular with many celebrities and worn by Gwen herself. She made her acting debut in the 2004 film The Aviator and is a spokesperson for L’Oreal.
Relationships: Gwen started dating her bandmate Tony Kanal soon after she joined No Doubt. Their break-up inspired many of the songs on Tragic Kingdom. In 1995 she met Gavin Rossdale, lead singer of rock band Bush. They married on 14th September 2002 and have two sons, Kingston James McGregor Rossdale, born 26th May 2006, and Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale, born on 21 August 2008.
FYI: Gwen is a distant cousin of Madonna. Her great-aunt’s mother-in-law shares the same last name as the queen of pop.
