Career: George found fame in the early 1980s as one half of pop duo Wham! Their 1981 debut album, Fantastic, was a UK number one and produced ten hit singles. Their second album, Make it Big, was a US hit, but George and his bandmate Andrew Ridgeley decided to break up the band in the summer of 1986 with a farewell single and sell-out concert. George began his solo career in 1987 with the album Faith. The debut single, I Want Your Sex, was banned by many radio stations due to its explicit content. Despite this, the album was a hit and sold more than 25 million copies. George cemented his solo success with the release of albums Listen Without Prejudice, Older and Patience.
Relationships: George didn’t admit to being gay until 1998 when he was arrested for “engaging in a lewd act” in a Beverly Hills public toilet. He has since been very open about his sexuality. In 1993 he formed a relationship with Anselmo Feleppa, who he met at the 1991 concert Rock in Rio. Feleppa died of an AIDS-related brain haemorrhage in 1993, and George dedicated his single Jesus to a Child and his album Older to him. He has been in a relationship with businessman Kenny Goss since 1996.
FYI: According to the 2009 Sunday Times Rich List, George is worth £90million.
