She appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine’s Swimsuit Issue a record five times in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1994 and 2006. In 1990 she launched her lingerie collection, Elle Macpherson Intimates, which became the best-selling lingerie line in Britain and Australia. She made her movie debut in the 1994 film Sirens and went onto appear in films including Alice, The Mirror Has Two Faces and Batman & Robin. She also appeared in five episodes of Friends. In February 2010 she was announced as the new host of Britain’s Next Top Model.
Relationships: In 1982, Elle met fashion photographer Gilles Bensimon on a photoshoot for Elle magazine. They married in 1985 but divorced four years later. She has two sons with her former boyfriend, Swiss financier Arpad Busson: Arpad Flynn Alexander, born 14th February 1988 and Aurelius Cy Andrea, born 4th February 2003. They started dating in 1995, got engaged in 2001 but called off their July 2005 wedding. She has since been linked with Bryan Adams, Guy Ritchie and British millionaire Damian Aspinall.
FYI: Elle was born Eleanor Nancy Gow. When her parents divorced, a clerical error at her new school resulted in her taking her stepfather’s name, Macpherson.
