Career: Cate started her career in theatre before making several appearances on Australian television shows. In 1997 she won her first leading film role in Oscar and Lucinda, but her first high-profile role was in the 1998 film Elizabeth, for which she won the Best Actress Oscar. Other films include The Talented Mr Ripley, The Aviator and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. In 2008 she received two Oscar nominations: Best Actress for Elizabeth: The Golden Age and Best Supporting Actress for I’m Not There
Relationships: Cate met her husband, playwright Andrew Upton, in 1996. They married on 29th December 1997 and have three sons: Dashiell John, born 3rd December 2001, Roman Robert, born 23rd April 2004 and Ignatius Martin, born 13th April 2008.
FYI: In 2009 she appeared in a series of special edition stamps called “Australian Legends of the Screen”, alongside Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe and Geoffrey Rush.
