Friday December 2 marks the 40th UAE National Day, a celebration of the UAE’s formal independence from the United Kingdom and the unification of the seven emirates in 1971.
More importantly, this public holiday celebrates the spirit that ties all of the disparate groups of people living in the emirates together – the Spirit of the Union.
The Spirit of the Union is derived from the vision of the Late Sheikh Zayed, and now lives on through His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
Events are happening throughout the emirates to celebrate this day, and expect to be impressed.
As well as parades, flags and fireworks, over the last few years a number of international records have been broken. Sharjah created the world’s biggest flag, Fujairah formed the longest-ever UAE flag across 413 cars and Abu Dhabi hosted the biggest ever fireworks display. This year will be even bigger and better!
