The Keeping up with the Kardashians star claimed “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for splitting up with her NBA star husband Kris Humphries, court documents show, pictured top right.
Although Kim has played every part of her marriage in front of the cameras, and always for cash, netting a whopping Dhs66 million for the wedding alone, she claims money was not a factor.
She said, “I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision. After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage.”
However her behaviour indicates otherwise. Hours after filing for the divorce, she was still thinking-business. Rather than mentioning Kris or the separation to her 10.8 million followers on Twitter, she instead plugged her new boutique Kardashian Khaos.
Court documents show that Kim wants Kris to pay his own lawyers’ fees and she’ll pay hers. And, she wants the court to reject any move by Kris to get spousal support from his much richer other-half. Kim is worth an estimated Dhs128 million, over four times Kris’s approximate Dhs30million. As well as signing a prenup, Kris even had to sign a contract preventing him from making any money from the Kardashian brand.
A source exclusively tells us, “The money and Kardashian brand extensions have always been a bone of contention in their marriage. Kris has been cut out of everything and he is still seen as a star of the show. He’s had enough of being taken for a ride and wanted out. Kim made sure she got in there first with the divorce announcement though.”
To make sure she gets her own way, Kim has hired divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, who has represented other megastars including Britney Spears, Maria Shriver, Angelina Jolie and Ryan Reynolds.
Rumours started circulating that the couple were having marital problems almost as soon as they were married. As recently as last week, Kim admitted that their first days of marriage were “not ideal.” And while she was here in Dubai on a business trip, Kris was spotted at a number of nightclubs in both New York and LA with different women and not wearing his wedding ring. He even had a lapdance from a pair of strippers, who later tweeted, “Dancing on his lap, life is complete,” and “Sorry Kim”.
Speaking about the separation, Kim said, “I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”
Although she claims they remain friends, Kris did not find out about the divorce until the day she filed her divorce papers, and is said to be “gutted” by the decision. As a Christian who does not believe in divorce, he was hoping to work out their differences, says a source.
Kris said, “I’m committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce… I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.”
Our source remains sceptical as to whether the pair will see this out on good terms. Our source said, “We expect fireworks over the next few weeks so let’s keep an eye this. Kris has been treated really badly during this whole ‘pretend’ marriage thing and he deserves to be looked after.”
“We wouldn’t be surprised if this was just another publicity stunt but we know how difficult Kim can be and how she has treated Kris. It’s really bad.”
The couple married in a lavish ceremony on August 20 in Montecito, California with the official date of the separation on October 31. Dividing the jaw-dropping Dhs66 million they received from magazine deals, TV coverage and endorsements by the paltry 72 days they were together, the couple made an incredible Dhs916,000 for every day they were together. Many hinting that the wedding, and even this divorce, could very well be one big publicity stunt! The question now is, who’s going to get what? We think Kim knows the answer and it’s set to be a messy divorce…
Other short celebrity weddings:
* Britney Spears and Jason Alexander
If it was a competition, Britney would win the “shortest-ever celeb marriage” with under three days clocked on the marriage certificate to her childhood friend Jason.
* Renée Zellweger and Kenny Chesney
Kenny and Renée filed for an annulment after just four months, with Renée later explaining, “I panicked. She’s a sweet soul, no doubt about it, but I just wasn’t ready.”
