Catherine Zeta-Jones in Mental Health Clinic
It seemed like things were finally looking up for Catherine Zeta-Jonesafter her husband Michael Douglas declared he was cancer-free in January. But according to the star’s rep, the traumatic experience proved too much to bear and the actress has checked in to a mental health facility to treat her depression.
“After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her bipolar disorder,” said the rep, adding, “She's feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films.”
Catherine, 41, was understandably shaken up with the news of Michael’s illness last summer, but stuck by him throughout the course of his treatment. Speaking out about the pain last year, she said, “The hardest part is seeing his fatigue, because Michael is never tired.”
But now Catherine is the one needing support, and according to sources quoted in People magazine that’s exactly what she’s getting at the facility. “There's no question it's been a stressful year. Catherine has had deal with Michael's illness and that's been hard. She went in for a few days because she's about to start working, and wanted to make sure she's in top form, which she is.”
