Superstar actress Cate Blanchett is to play a leading role at Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) that's kicking off on 6 December. The Australian beauty will head the IWC Filmmakers Award jury for the second time.
Cate, 44, will be jetting into the Emirate to pick the winner of the catergory and award them a cash prize of $100,000 so that they can bring their script to life.
Last year, she shone through the event with her glowing complexion (we think she's been secretly spending her downtime enjoying beauty treatments at the Madinat Jumeirah's Talise spa), wearing a Peter Pilotto design, shoes and clutch by Roger Vivier. Of course, her outfit wouldn't have been complete without her obligatory IWC watch. The actress stopped for a chat with us and here is what she had to say
How are you finding Dubai?
I am finding it fantastic and the food is amazing. I can't wait to return.
How long are you here for?
I have been here a few days. I saw the opening film, Ang Lee's film was extraordinary (You mean Life of Pi, Cate)
As President of the jury, what are you looking for in these films?
I think it's a wonderful festival. I think it's great that IWC and DIFF celebrate emerging film makers and current filmmaking.
This is your first time at the Dubai International Film Festival, how are you finding it?Well, they are unique pictures and voices but in the end there has to be a lot of passion behind the project. For these small independent films, this award is a kickstart, a foothold for these film makers. This is a vote of confidence by the IWC and the festival. I think it's wonderful. I am really looking forward to seeing how the award evolves. It was a great privilege to be asked to head up the judging panel this year.
How are you finding the Madinat Jumeirah as the venue for DIFF?
I think the venue is just wonderful. It seems akin to the Roman Empire somehow.
