Catch the WAGs at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship
For those unfamiliar, the popular term WAG has come to stand for Wives and Girlfriends of famous sports men. First used to identify the attention earning significant others of UK footballers, the definition has now branched out to include the likes of the lovely ladies who will be joining their partners for the start of the New Year in Abu Dhabi. While there will be plenty of action on centre court at this year’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship, who’s sitting in the front row may bring just as much heat with their can’t-miss tennis style and flair for fashion.
First up is world no 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic’s newlywed bride Jelena Djokovic. The childhood sweethearts tied the knot in July and welcomed a beautiful baby boy in October. Jelena’s been a regular on the tennis circuit being there to support her star athlete as he’s established himself as one of the best players in the open era. Expect an effortless and cool style from this new mum.
Together for over eight years, Rafael Nadal, world no 3, has nothing but praise for his long time Spanish girlfriend, once stating in an interview that he feels great with Xisca Perello and that she’s probably the woman of his life. The two keep their relationship feeling like new by avoiding the limelight and spending time with each other away from tournaments.
Stanislas Wawrinka, current world no 4, cemented his status as one of the world’s finest players with his 2014 Australian Open win. He’s been married to Swiss television presenter and former fashion model Ilham Vuilloud since 2009. The couple welcomed their first child together, a baby girl in 2010. Vuilloud is not shy in showing support for her tennis professional husband and can often be seen and heard cheering on Stan from the stands wearing neutral or dark colors. So Swiss and chic!
One of the most famous tennis WAG’s is the great Scot’s long-time girlfriend, and now fiancé, Kim Sears. Together since 2006 the pair first met at a party for the US Open when Kim was 17, travelling with her father Nigel Sears, a tennis pro-turned coach. Although working as a pet portraitist for high-end clients in London, Sears still makes time to attend the majority of world no. 6, Andy Murray’s matches. This WAG always stands out in the crowd usually wearing bright colors and high end brands.
