Carrefour to COMPLETELY stop using plastic by 2025
A win for the environment!
You may have noticed the beige and green jute bags at one of the “green counters” in Carrefour.
While customers slowly grow accustomed to standing in line at the green counter, the supermarket giant has decided to eliminate plastic bags altogether by 2025 – all thanks to Majid Al Futtaim, the retail chain behind the anti-plastic initiative.
Amazing, considering a whopping number of 300 Carrefour stores dot the entire UAE region.
Not only will plastic bags be eliminated, but also single use plastics such as cutlery and trays, according to Hani Weiss, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim.
Considering the millions of visitors who shop at Carrefour stores across Majid Al Futtaim’s shopping malls, if each one were to ditch plastic and use Carrefour’s special green bags, approx. 2 million kilograms of plastic waste will be replaced by biodegradable materials.
Get your incentives for eliminating plastic with the ‘SHARE’ App
Not only does this impact the environment, but also customers, thanks to excting incentives.
Majid Al Futtaim has announced a new app called ‘SHARE’, which is a loyalty rewards programme filled with benefits under categories such as dining, movies, and other leisure options.
Reusable bags purchased between 6 and 7 November will be credited back in points, which can be used for many other offers in the future.
