Can Top Gun 2 Save Tom’s Career?
Tom Cruiseis reportedly so desperate for a box office hit following disappointing audience figures for Knight Day that’s he’s in talks to make a Top Gun sequel.
Confirming the news, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said they were working on a way to update Tom’s character, Maverick. “We kicked around some ideas because the aviation community has completely changed since we made the movie a long time ago,” Bruckheimer told MTV. “So we have to find a way in and how to incorporate the Maverick character into it.”
Tom was said to have been pinning his hopes on Knight Day - the summer action flick co-starring Cameron Diaz - to shoot him back up to the top of the box office, but after the movie finished in third, behind Grown Ups and Toy Story 3, he’s been forced to come up with a new strategy to save his career.
Panicking the actor more are the rumours that studio bosses were waiting to see how well Knight Day performed before they green lit Mission Impossible 4, and now they’re said to be having doubts over Tom’s pull as an action star.
