A conventional life never seemed to be in the cards for Cameron Diaz, until now. The 39-year-old has finally admitted she’s thinking about kids. “I’ve never said I don’t want children... I just haven’t had children yet. I don’t know what’s going to happen in my life,” she told InStyle.
We thought Cameron would be childless forever when, in 2009, she said, “I think women are afraid to say that they don’t want children because they’re going to get shunned. And honestly we don’t need any more kids. We have plenty of people on this planet.” Perhaps her new role as a mum in What to Expect When You’re Expecting started her biological clock ticking.
A-List adoption vs natural birth
With no man on the scene, Cameron has hinted she’s considering adoption, following in the footsteps of Charlize Theron, who adopted her son Jackson in March this year. “I could end up adopting children,” she revealed. “I’m not trying to fit into anyone’s box about how I should be.” Considering Cam’s age, adoption might be her only choice. Experts say that a woman’s chance of getting pregnant within a year drops to 65 per cent in her late 30s and that by age 40 only two in five women who wish to have a baby will be able to!
Addicted to heartbreak
Cam may be lucky in love on-screen, but off-screen it’s a different story. She’s had a string of failed relationships with video producer Carlos de La Torre (1990 to 1994), Matt Dillon (1995 to 1998), Jared Leto (1999 to 2003), Justin Timberlake (2003 to 2007), Jude Law (2007 and 2009), Paul Sculfor (2008 to 2009) and Alex Rodriguez (2010). But she’s still holding out for her white knight, saying, “I’d rather have my heart broken a thousand times than never to love at all. I have so much love to give – I’m not empty of love, I’m full of love.” Poor Cam!
