This could be the news you have been waiting for! According to a study by the University of Southern California, chocolate burns fat. Yes, you did read that right. While chocolate may be high in calories, these calories are said to be a little different to your average weight gainer. Researchers found that chocolate calories make your metabolism work harder and burn fat. In fact, the study showed that those who ate a small amount of choccies once or twice a week were more likely to have a lower BMI than those who didn’t. While it seems a bit of a shocker that chocolate could be seen as a slimming food, this isn’t the only research to show that chocolate contains a magic ingredient. A study from The Archives of Internal Medicine featured in the Daily Mail, found that epicatechin – a chemical derived from cocoa – has been shown to boost numbers of mitochondria, the cells’ energy-generating ‘power houses’. While we are excited about this research we reckon we’d still better knock out a few more sit-ups at the gym.
