WHAT’S INVOLVED: This seven day diet is broken down into specific eating rituals during the week which include a meal of cabbage soup per day. The weight loss routine can be done for seven days on and two days off.

Day one: One meal should be cabbage soup and the rest of the day can be spent munching on fruit. Any fruit can be consumed on day one, except bananas.

Day two: Two meals should be eaten on the second day, one being cabbage soup the other being a baked potato with butter. No fruit is to be consumed on this day.

Day three: Start with cabbage soup, then eat fruit and vegetables for the rest of the day. Again, any fruit and vegetables can be consumed, except potatoes and bananas.

Day four: Have one meal of cabbage soup on day four as well as up to eight bananas with skimmed milk.

Day five: Start with cabbage soup, followed later in the day with 10 ounces of beef and up to six tomatoes.

Day six: Cabbage soup plus a meal of beef and vegetables. Consume as many different vegetables as you like, excluding potatoes.

Day seven: Finish with cabbage soup, brown rice and vegetables, again excluding potatoes. Drink unsweetened fruit juice.

YOU WILL NEED (Cabbage Soup):

  • 6 large green onions
  • 2 green peppers
  • 2 cans of tomatoes
  • 1 bunch celery
  • ½ head cabbage
  • 1 pack dry onion soup mix
  • 1-2 chicken or beef stock cubes

VERDICT: Dietician and nutrition expert Joanne Larsen says, “Any diet that has fewer calories than what you are eating now will cause weight loss. The problem most people have is maintaining the weight loss. The one good thing a moderate weight-loss plan can do is provide you with a new eating plan that can be followed for a lifetime. There is no ‘silver bullet food’ yet for weight loss. It takes diet and exercise.” Ryan Penny, Clinical Nutritionist and Conditioning Coach for The Wellness Brothers, offers his advice:OK the good news about this diet is that, apart from the name, it is not just cabbage soup. I suspect that, like the Mission: Impossible messages, this programme will self-destruct in, say… two weeks tops!”
