Brunch review: Zero Gravity

Friday brunch in the UAE is big business, but these days more and more Saturday brunches are popping up around the city, too. As we all know, brunches can be a long and tiring affair, and quite frankly, we prefer spending our Saturdays chilling by the pool and re-energising for the busy week ahead. So when we found out that Dubai hot spot Zero Gravity has a Saturday brunch where you can do exactly that, we knew we had to check it out.

Anybody who has been to Zero Gravity will know it’s always a lively party. Fortunately, Saturdays at the venue are still busy, without being overwhelming, which is exactly what we want on the last day of the weekend.

On arrival, we’re escorted through the venue and its food stations, past the various bars, and to our very own beach bed next to the pool. Summer is finally cooling down, and it’s evident by the hordes of swimsuits soaking up the sun, guests slashing in the water and people sipping on refreshing drinks.

Once we’re settled, we decide to explore the venue’s food stations. Instead of big, hearty meals, there are plenty of light snacks and salads on offer, which are perfect for snacking on. Inside the venue, we’re treated to a variety of fresh salads, cold cuts of meat and fresh sushi, which is perfect for a day of sun and swim. Because nobody wants to swim (or wear a swimsuit) after a big portion of pasta, right?

After a bit of swimming and socialising, we attempt the outside buffet for round two. On the opposite end of the scale, it consists of a variety a fried foods. It’s not as healthy as in the inside buffet, but we’re certainly not complaining. From battered fish, spinach samoosas, chicken strips and French fries, the options are endless. Combined with a variety of sauces on offer, it’s the perfect cheat day treat. And considering the portions are small and snack size, we don’t feel particularly guilty, TBH.

In terms of drinks, there are a variety of bars scattered across the venue and around the pool. You’ll find pretty much everything you’d expect from a brunch, but most importantly, there are loads of refreshing fruity options to keep you cool and refreshed.

Food, drinks and sun aside, the pool is enormous, plus there is also a private beach to enjoy. In fact, the brunch offers guests complimentary pool and beach access from 10am, so you can start your afternoon and secure your spot before the crowds arrive for the day.

The party also continues long after brunch ends, with 2-for-1 drinks specials available from 5pm-8pm, and a DJ spinning tunes on the decks.

Okay, so we end up staying a lot longer than expected, but we leave smiling, tanned and refreshed, and ready for the busy week ahead. Win, win.
