Brunch review: Weslodge Saloon, JW Marriot Marquis

Here at Ahlan!, we’re no strangers to Weslodge – Dubai’s very first modern, American saloon. Perched on the 68th floor of the JW Marriot Marquis in Business Bay, it’s already a popular hangout spot for dinner and drinks. It’s also become the go-to place on Friday’s for brunchers looking for an after party. However, Weslodge isn’t just for after parties – it also hosts its very own brunch!

Taking place every Friday afternoon, Weslodge offers a lively a la carte brunch hosted by radio personality Aylissa Boyce. Everyone who knows Aylissa knows she’s loud and bubbly, which is exactly what the brunch is like. From party games and challenges to 90s throwback pop hits, be prepared to participate and sing along.

If it’s a fun afternoon you’re after, you certainly won’t be disappointed. Fortunately, serious foodies won’t be disappointed either.
Starters include the healthy Weslodge Chop (a salad with avocado, goat cheese and dill vinaigrette), scorched Wagyu and quinoa, served with pumpkin, rocket and sunflower seeds.

Then comes the raw and fried dishes, including Ahi tuna tartare with avocado, celery, yuzu, hot sauce and black sesame crackers, and yellow tail served with black rice and ginger soy glaze.

But if there’s only one thing you try, make sure it’s the Southern fried chicken with tabasco honey. Because, let’s face it – nothing beats quality fried chicken – and it doesn’t get better than this.

Last but not the least of the sharing platters, you’ll be treated to grilled chicken wings and spice-rubbed lamb ribs, so be prepared to get your fingers dirty.
The only decision you’ll have to make is your main course, which has three options: whole seabass, spelt barley risotto and Australian Wagyu tenderloin. We opted for the tenderloin, which was perfectly cooked, and oozing in flavour.

It’s also worth noting that the sides are another highlight (yes, really) – fries for those who like to keep things simple, roast cauliflower for the health fanatics (not us, tbh) and our personal favourite – MAC & CHEESE! Because what’s an American-style brunch without a portion of mac & cheese on the side, eh?

As expected, as the brunch develops, so does the atmosphere. By the time last rounds are called, the curtains are closed and the venue goes from comfy saloon to party dancefloor. More guests start streaming in, drinks discounts are handed out and that’s when the party REALLY starts.

If you’re looking for a lively brunch with good food, nostalgic music and an epic after party, Weslodge ticks all the boxes. Best you don’t make plans for after brunch.
