We’re going to be honest: we’ve always been fans of The Meat Co. The venues are fabulous, the food is top notch and the South African hospitality and atmosphere is electric. Needless to say, they didn’t have to ask us twice to try out the new brunch at its Souk Al Bahar branch.
And while The Meat Co’s heritage might be African, the Souk Al Bahar venue is VERY Dubai. We’re talking souk vibes with one of the best Burj Khalifa views in the entire city, complete with a front row seat at The Dubai Fountain. Yes, it’s perfect for visitors, but even the most seasoned UAE residents will be blown away by the location. Be sure to ask for a table on the terrace.
As for the food (the real star of the show), a selection of hot and cold appetisers are served to the table. Fortunately, it’s unlimited, because we love it so much we end up ordering three rounds (seriously).
We’re talking crispy fried calamari, which is tossed in salt, pepper and spiced flour and served with yuzu and samphire, and traditional South African beef boerewors. The grilled Angus sausages are fragrant and unique thanks to the use of South African spices, and the dish is served with a tomato-based chakalaka sauce.
For mains, we get to select one dish from the menu. We opt for the Australian Angus, which is cooked perfectly, pink in the middle and terrifically tender, served with truffle fries and a choice of sauce. Our guest opts for the cheese and truffle pizza, which instantly gives everyone around us food envy. Winning!
As the afternoon rolls on, the staff gather to perform a medley of traditional South African songs, much to the delight of the guests. Phones come out, people start dancing, and everyone is clearly happy.
Now that’s what we call a memorable brunch in Dubai.
