Every now and then we stumble upon a brunch that unexpectedly blows us away – and that’s exactly what happened when we popped by SeaGrill Bistro at Fairmont the Palm. While many restaurants are famous for its brunches, the offering at SeaGrill Bistro has been a rather low-key affair. In fact, most people most probably don’t even know that it offers a Friday brunch. As a result, we can honestly say that it’s undoubtedly one of Dubai’s best-kept secrets.

The venue itself is what summer dreams are made of. Located next to the hotel’s adults-only pool, the restaurant is bright and airy, with both inside and outside seating. On weekends, a live DJ adds to the chilled ambience.

Another highlight is that the brunch includes pool and beach access from 10am, which means you get to soak in some sun before AND after lunch. On arrival, we head straight to the private beach where we top up our tans on the sun loungers. We immediately feel like we’re on a daycation, instead of just another brunch session.

In terms of cuisine, it’s one of the best in the city, hands down.
Firstly, all dishes are served to the table, so no need to queue at the buffet. Starters include beetroot salad, tuna salad, beef tartare, burrata cheese, crab cake and a variety of other cold treats.

However it’s the cold seafood tower that really takes our breath away. The tiers are filled with every underwater critter imaginable – from lobster, crab and oysters to mussels, prawns and clams, it’s not only extravagant, it’s also a work of art. Even those who don’t generally like cold seafood end up digging in (only after we snap away Instagram pics, obviously).

The mains don’t disappoint either. In fact, the dishes are so varied, that practically everyone is catered for. There’s a hearty roast chicken with peas and carrots, a flavourful seabass fillet with peppers and onions, a Mediterranean fish stew and grilled zucchini and broccolini with olive oil. The dishes are all winners, but it’s the mushroom fusilli pasta with goat’s cheese, truffle oil and arugula that reigns supreme.

 Of course, no brunch is complete without dessert. We’re talking basked Alaska, a decadent chocolate cake and apple tarte tatin, which we gobble down in seconds.

Perhaps we were better off skipping dessert, because after brunch we retire to the hotel pool where we display our bloated bodies on the comfortable sun loungers. Yes, getting back into a swimsuit AFTER brunch is most probably not ideal, but we can’t help but make most of the Fairmont’s relaxing poolside vibes.

One more thing we have to add: the service throughout the afternoon is immaculate. No, seriously – pure perfection. Food is fast, drinks are constantly topped up, and plates are cleared… all with a smile and a friendly chat.
When we said before that the SeaGrill Bistro brunch experience was one of Dubai’s best kept secrets, we weren’t kidding. It ticks all the boxes, and then some.
