Brunch Review: Bleu Blanc, Renaissance Downtown Hotel

The newly opened Renaissance Downtown Hotel in Dubai has fast become a local foodie hot spot thanks to its variety of dining destinations. But since the hotel’s launch late last year, it’s Bleu Blanc by David Myers that keeps us returning time and time again.

Today, however, we’re particularly excited, because Bleu Blanc has finally launched its brunch. And when we already love a venue, we usually love it even more after a brunch session.

On arrival, we’re surprised how quiet the light, bright and airy venue is, but we can only assume it’s because the brunch is still a newbie on the scene. Also, it’s a posh brunch with gourmet cuisine, so loads of loud group tables are likely to ruin the experience anyway. And the intimate setting also means immaculate service.

The Comme Ça Brunch takes place every Friday and the food arrives direct to the table.  Serving signature dishes, including oxtail tartine, polenta croquettes, skirt steak, grilled king prawns, and mac and cheese, it’s a delicious journey indeed. From traditional breakfast-type brunch dishes to rich and saucy desserts, it  definitely has something for everyone.

The brunch kicks off with a selection of homemade breads and croissants along with an avocado and egg tartine, with perfectly runny yolks. And we’re glad we arrived hungry, because the plates don’t stop coming. From starters of salt-baked beetroot and kale salad to polenta croquettes and pesto ravioli, the variety is both tasty
and impressive.

In terms of the mains, the mac and cheese is life-changing, and the big, juicy king prawns are up there with some of the best seafood restaurants in the world.

Thanks to a seating area overlooking the Dubai Water Canal, we retreat to the restaurant’s terrace where we soak in the views and last drinks. We might’ve found our new fave place to hang out (pity they don’t serve brunch every day).
