Known as the Oscars of the fashion world, the British Fashion Awards mean serious business. And when it comes to fashion, British women are clearly running the field. Or at least that was the signal sent off after the award ceremony early last week. Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen walked off with the most prestigious prize of Designer of the Year, with a little thanks to designing the most photographed wedding dress in history for The Duchess of Cambridge, not to mention ‘that’ Puffball tartan dress worn by countless celebrities from the younger label McQ. Victoria Beckham also managed to scoop up the prize of Best Designer Brand beating off strong competition from the likes of Tom Ford, and British power house Burberry. Finally Stella McCartney was given the Red Carpet award for this year’s most papped polka dot dresses worn by celebrities including Liv Tyler and Kate Winslet. You go girls!
