BRITNEY SPEARS is worth $120 million to the US economy, according to big business magazine Portfolio.

After an exhaustive study, the magazine has published statistics that make the troubled star a pop culture icon and a boost to American finances.

Portfolio reports that between January 2006 and July 2007, Spears appeared on the front covers of the leading U.S. tabloids 175 times in 78 weeks, and she has been the number one search subject on website Yahoo! in six of the past seven years.

The magazine also discovered that a Las Vegas nightclub reportedly sold seats next to Spears' table for $50,000 and the pop star can still earn as much as $400,000 in appearance fees.

The publication also estimates Spears makes a personal fortune of $9 million-a-year, and, despite her reported financial woes, has a personal fortune of about $125 million.

Meanwhile, Britney has bought her pregnant sister a one-of-a-kind elephant - as a gift for her unborn baby.

The pop star has reportedly ordered a six-foot tall custom-made elephant for 16-year-old Jamie Lynn, as part of a $30,000 nursery gift.

Reports suggest Spears has commissioned the owners of trendy Los Angeles baby boutique Petit Tresor to design an ocean-themed nursery for her sister in Kentwood, Louisiana.

An insider says, "It is going to have organic bedding and baby blankets...

Britney's sparing no expense.

"She also ordered a custom made, six-foot tall elephant with a blue bow which she wants to sit in the middle of the nursery."

Meanwhile, Bosses at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles have fired a dozen employees for snooping in Britney's records.

Hospital officials have suspended another six people after discovering as many as 20 staff members had attempted to defy medical centre rules and obtain confidential information about Spears, a recent patient.

The pop star was hospitalised in the facility's psychiatric ward at the beginning of last month.

Those disciplined include physicians, according to the Los Angeles Times newspaper.
