British Singer Alvin Stardust Passed Away
The My Coo Ca Choo hitmaker, real name Bernard William Jewry, passed away at home surrounded by his wife Julia and family on Thursday. He had recently been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer. Jewry first burst onto the pop scene in Shane Fenton and the Fentones in the 1960s and they enjoyed a string of hits on the U.K. music chart.
After they split, Jewry took time out of the spotlight and returned years later in 1973, under the alias Alvin Stardust, producing hits such as Jealous Mind and I Feel Like Buddy Holly.
Stardust also enjoyed an acting career with brief appearances in U.K. TV shows Doctors, The Grimleys and British soap opera Hollyoaks. He also performed in musicals Godspell and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
He had been largely absent from the music industry since the 1980s, but was planning to make a pop comeback in November with his first album in 30 years.
The glam rocker was married three times and had four children.
