Bring & Braai in Dubai for South African Heritage Day

Bring & Braai in Dubai for South African Heritage Day

01 Sep 2014

Celebrate this annual cultural event at Emirates Golf Club in the UAE

You don’t have to be South African to celebrate Heritage Day, as a fun cultural event in honour of the national holiday is open to all.

‘Braai’ is the name given to a marinated charcoal-grilled meat popular across the country, and you’re invited to bring along your own and cook it alongside hundreds of others at ‘Bring ‘n’ Braai’ stations in celebration of South African traditions. There’ll even be a Braai Master competition sponsored by Webber Grills, in which keen cooks will be challenged to recreate this popular snack. Entrants must marinate their meat using the sauces and spice of their choice at home, then bring it along to cook using the barbecue facilities provided.

No other food or drink will be allowed into the venue, but dishes including spitbraai, boerewors and mixed-grill plates, plus some sweeter treats, will be on sale, and of course everyone’s welcome to bring their own picnic blankets, camping chairs, parasols, balls and games.

Entertainment will include a performance by South African comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout, plus DJ sets from Just Lance, Richard Smith and DJ Don, who’ll be spinning their choice of South African hits. Kids are welcome to attend and will be catered for with a petting zoo, bouncy castle and arts and crafts activities; older youths and adults can test their prowess in the social touch rugby area.

There’ll also be a Braai Day afterparty, hosted by the people behind popular Dubai club night HOUSEofAFRIKA at Media City haunt The DEK on 8.
