Breakfast Review: Sophie's Cafe, Metro Central Hotel

22 Mar 2018

The perfect place for a lazy weekend breakfast...

Who doesn’t love a neighbourhood breakfast joint? And fortunately for the residents of Barsha Heights, there’s a newbie in town.

If the name rings a bell,  it’s because Sophie’s Café was originally located on Palm Jumeirah. It has since found a new home in the Metro Central Hotel.

But if you’re not familiar with the brand, allow us fill you in. Sophie’s is a health-focused, ready-to-go café concept, serving up a fantastic selection of wholesome and balanced dishes. Everything they make is created in-house from start to finish, with a focus on local, organic and whole foods. So you don’t have to feel guilty.

Best of all, they serve everything from baked goods and sweet treats, to traditional favourites.

To start, we decide to try a chocolate and peanut butter smoothie, which consists of cacao, peanut butter, banana, dates and almond milk. It’s a complete sweet treat and we gulp it down in seconds.

For mains, we order the eggs Florentine, which is made up of poached eggs, spinach and Hollandaise sauce on crispy seed toast. It’s simple, fresh, tasty and exactly what breakfast dreams are made of.

Our guest opts for the avocado toast with tomato, red onion, chilli and coriander (also perfection), with the option of two added poached eggs. The eggs cost an extra Dhs10, which is steep, but the dish is so delicious we soon forget about it.

The eggs menu itself is an attraction. From eggs Atlantic and salmon scrambled eggs, to corn fritters and eggs Benedict, the variety on offer is endless.

You’ll also be happy to know they’re open until 9pm, so no need to rush out of bed for your breakfast fix. You’ve got all day...
