While promoting her upcoming movie The Shallows on Sway Calloway's Shade 45 radio show, Blake Lively opened up about her controversial Instagram photo. The mum-to-be said her post was “just about celebrating women’s bodies”.
Last month, during the Cannes Film Festival, Blake walked the red carpet with a stunning gold sequinned gown. She then posted a picture of herself from the event with the caption: “LA face and Oakland booty” implying that her derriere was getting bigger during her second pregnancy. Many people took it the wrong way and blamed the actress for being “racially insensitive” and claimed she was “disrespectful” to women of colour.
Despite all this social media outrage, the former Gossip Girl star didn’t remove her post and finally decided to speak out, saying: “It’s something I was proud of“ (talking about her “Oakland booty”). She continued: “I never meant to offend anyone. But Sir Mix-A-Lot, he actually said a very nice thing; he was very defensive and kind, because it’s just about celebrating women’s bodies, and that’s what I was doing. I would never want to hurt anyone’s feelings or upset anyone.”
You’re the best Blake!
