Beyonce and Jay-Z Lead BET Awards Winners
Give it up for Beyonce,
Jay-Z, Chris Brown and Kanye West – all big winners at the BET Awards 2012 in LA on 1 July. The stars all picked up multiple
trophies; Jay-Z and Kanye West's The Throne collaboration won them Best Group
and Video of the Year honours, while Beyonce took home Best Female R'n'B Artist
and Video Director of the Year, opposite her sister Solange's boyfriend Alan
Ferguson.
While in the audience, Beyonce and Jay-Z sat right
next to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian and it looked like one happy family. When
she lost video of the year to Jay-Z and West, Bey playfully hit her husband and
laughed. The joking went on when moments later, as Kanye was giving his
acceptance speech, Jay-Z interrupted him and said, "Excuse me Kanye, I'm
gonna let you continue, but ..." The audience burst out laughing, remembering
Kanye's infamous interruption of Taylor Swift's MTV Video Music Awards speech a
few years ago.
Meanwhile, Chris claimed
the night's Best Male R'n'B Artist award and was also voted the fans' favourite
artist overall.
It was also a big night for Whitney Houston fans – the
late star was the subject of a long and emotionally-charged tribute, featuring a
heartfelt speech by Mariah Carey and performances from Monica, Brandy, Chaka
Khan and the tragic singer's mother Cissy.
And then there were the performances!
Nicki Minaj, Usher, Tyga, Chris and Kanye rocked the stage with their acts,
even though long stretches of Nicki and Rick Ross' performances had to be
bleeped out because of the language used.
