It seems every Queen Bey isn't immune to getting starstruck. Well, she can when she’s meeting actual royals. The acclaimed singer looked as cool as a cucumber on the outside on the gold carpet of the London premier of The Lion King but it sounds as though she, along with the rest of the cast was feeling more than slightly anxious when they were preparing to meet the British royals.
In an interview, Billy Eichner, who voices Timon spilled the tea on the “intense” protocols the premiere guests were supposed to follow before meeting the royals which left the entire cast feeling nervous.
“We were all kind of nervous, even Beyoncé. What makes you nervous is that the days leading up to it, they email you a protocol of how you’re supposed to greet Prince Harry and Meghan … You’re supposed to say, ‘Your Royal Highness’, (and) you can’t speak until your hands are in a handshake with his.”
“I’m not kidding!” he exclaimed. “I was like, 'Does that same rule apply to JAY-Z?' I don’t know. I have a feeling it doesn't!"
According to protocols from the royal rulebook it seems like Beyoncé broke almost every rule that Billy mentioned. Not only did she arrive to the premiere after the Duke and Duchess walked the red (gold) carpet (a major faux pas by the way), she also addressed Meghan first and called her “my princess” throwing the rules out of the window. And if that wasn’t enough, Beyoncé decided to give Meghan a proper hug instead of just shaking her hand. Either Queen Bey was riddled with nerves and couldn’t think straight or she simply didn’t bother about the protocols well, because she’s Beyoncé.
Guess we’ll never know.
