Dubai Police have issued a stark reminder of the harsh penalties for beach photography
Dubai Police have warned residents and visitors to be careful of who they put in the frame when taking pictures since filming or taking pictures of others without their consent is punishable by law.
The warning was given on their twitter handle and applies to other places as well but is most important for beaches as people tend to be dressed only in swimwear.
The punishment varies depending on the nature of the violation and how the image is used. You could pay up a hefty fine, serve jail time and get deported. Last year, around 290 such offenses were recorded related to pictures being taken of women without their consent.
