OK, so sports aren't for everyone, but as it's January and everyone's at least "thinking" about getting fitter,, one of the leading Arab online sports communities in the region, has launched its annual online public voting campaign, "The Best Arab Athlete Awards 2007", for the fourth year running. And we thought you might be interested!?

Sports lovers from across the world can log on and votefor their favorite Arab athletes, leagues, teams and sports reporters, based on their performances last year. Have you been following the football? Kept your eye on the tennis? We mean the team spirit obviously, not just how dashing your fave hero looks in his sportswear (tut).

Every user has the right to vote for his/her favorite star and if you're a woman on the move, votes can also be sent via mobile phones - see the website for specifics. Samer Kamal, Sports Manager at says "The great thing about this competition is that the community of fans are the ones who decide on the best athlete in their favorite category."

Votes can be cast for your favorites in 18 categories, including Best Football Player, Best Basketball player, Top Player in various other sports, Best Female Athlete in various sports, Strongest Arab League, Best Arab National Team and Best Arab Club team.

The event last year saw Mohammad Abu Tareka voted the best Arab Footballer, Jordanian Basketball player Zaid Al Khas voted the best Arab Basketball player, Qatari Naser Al Attayh voted as the Top Player in various other sports, and Emirati Sheikha Maitha Bint Mohammad judged as the best Arab Female athlete.

This year's campaign results will be periodically aired on Maktoob TV, which will be broadcast on Nile Sat. Get tuned in. After all, if you're like us and you can't be bothered hitting the gym yourself, you can at least support the people who can!
