As well as having her designs thrust into the Bollywood spotlight last year, this über-stylish fashion designer has taken her collection international, with India as the first stop.
Tell us about this expansion in India.
I set up in Dubai in 2007 when my debut collection was showcased at Dubai Fashion Week. In 2012 I spent my time preparing to expand in the Indian retail market. I plan to host five trunk shows in India every year.
You dressed several celebrities in 2012. What were the highlights?Definitely dressing Deepika Padukone for FHM magazine and designing clothes for an upcoming Bollywood film Charlie Ke Chakkar Mein.
What’s your style inspiration?
Being a mum of a four-year-old boy, the primary goal is always comfort. I always look for clothes that are fashionable yet comfortable that can take me from day to night by just adding a pair of killer heels, a red lipstick or a strand of pearls. Each piece from my collection is an investment piece as it will take you from season to season.
What is your personal style?
A perfect marriage of feminine chic and rock star punk. I love my flirty fun dresses as much as I love a studded leather jacket.
How did your fashion passion begin?
Ever since I was a child I had a flair for fashion and an eye for detail, which often led me cutting up my mum’s saris into tiny little dresses for myself.
