The Dubai Municipality believes that unwashed cars ruins the appearance of the city. They have warned residents and decided to charge a fine of Dhs500 to those who don’t comply with this.
Abdul Majeed Abdul Aziz Al Saifaie, the director of Dubai Municipality’s waste management department has elaborated on the decision: “First, the vehicle will be identified whether it meets the conditions, such as obstructing the city’s cleanliness, and then a violation notice will be issued by putting a warning sticker on the vehicle.”
Drivers will then have a period of 15 days to clean their vehicles.
“If motorists fail to respond within this period, the vehicle will be confiscated and shifted to the scrap yard. And if the owner of the vehicle owner still refuses to pay the fine, the vehicle will be sold at auction,” added Al Saifaie.
It is important to note that the fine will not be imposed on cars that have light dust on them, but on those that have been left unwashed for months, to the point where the colour of the vehicle is unrecognizable.
