Ashton Kutcher offered up love advice to the editors of a
top women’s magazine, just weeks before his own marriage to Demi Moore fell
The actor opened up about the secrets to a great relationship
with bosses at Women’s Health magazine for the publication’s December (2011)
issue, explaining communication is the key.
But his tips have now come into question after Demi
announced on Thursday (17 November) that their six-year marriage was over – just
days before the publication hits newsstands.
The couple had been dogged by rumours of Ashton’s infidelity
since they spent their sixth wedding anniversary apart in September (2011).
Appearing to refer to his own troubled marriage, the Two and a Half Men star suggested he regretted not working on
strengthening his relationship with Demi long before their problems became
When asked about the best love advice he’s ever received,
he said, “I think it’s all about working on the relationship and making it
better... when it’s good. Don’t wait for a problem to work on things. The goal
is not to get into a relationship; the goal is to be in a relationship.”
In the candid Women’s Health chat, conducted weeks before
the split was confirmed, Ashton tellingly admitted his lack of listening skills
have always been a problem.
He added, “I would just like a woman someday, somewhere,
at some point in my life to say to me, ‘You’re a great listener’. Haven’t heard
it yet, and that’s a superior compliment to get from a woman. But I’m going to
work on it.”
Ultimately the couple’s problems became too difficult to
overcome. Judging by Kutcher’s own words, the trouble lies with his unwillingness
to abandon his old ways: “I could never be with a woman who felt like she
needed to change me.”
