Anna Faris has found herself slapped with a fine and being accused of dog abandonment after a pooch that she adopted four years ago was found wandering the streets of Hollywood extremely malnourished.
The Scary Movie actress faced the wrath of animal lovers this week when the owner of an animal shelter revealed that a chihuahua named Pete, who she adopted in 2012, had been found emaciated and homeless. When the Kinder4Rescue shelter scanned the dog’s microchip, it listed the star, who is married to actor Chris Pratt, as his owner.
Banned & Fined
Anna, 39, defended herself against the backlash, explaining that the pooch is no longer in her care. She said that though she adopted Pete, she had to give him away to new owners after her son was born as he was allergic to the pooch. However, for failing to notify the animal shelter about placing Pete in a new home, the actress has breached the adoption contract that she signed and so, has been slapped with a $5,000 fine. She’s also been blacklisted from the shelter, with the owner considering taking legal action.
In a statement the actress said she was “deeply thankful” that Pete had been found and apologised for the situation. She said: “I am deeply sorry. I now understand the dangers of giving animals away for free.” Thankfully little Pete is set to make a full recovery.
