It was a surprise start to the Mubadala Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi as Janko Tipsarevic defeated Olympic and US Open champion Andy Murray in straight sets. The Serbian world number nine scored a 6-3, 6-4 win over the world number three Brit star in just about 84 minutes in the tournament's opening match.

While the match wasn't exactly one-sided, Murray did look less smooth than usual and had his serve broken in the fourth game of the first set and the opening game of the second set too.

Janko, who was seriously consistent in his first match, faces world number 11 Nicolas Almagro from Spain in the semi-final on 28 December.

Post-match, the winner said, “I played great tennis tonight. As Murray said earlier, there are no easy
matches. I am looking forward to the semi-finals against Almagro." Us too!
