Chelsea Clinton, met Marc Mezvinsky, the son of former US Representative Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky of Pennsylvania and Ed Mezvinsky of Iowa, in her teens in Washington. But it was only when they attended Stanford University together that their relationship started to grow. Last year on Thanksgiving weekend, Marc proposed to Chelsea after a five-year courtship. While Chelsea has just completed her master’s degree at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, Marc works at G3 Capital, a Manhattan hedge fund. The couple now live in a gorgeous Dhs14 million Fifth Ave three-bedroom apartment with views of Madison Square Park and the Flatiron Building. Wedding brings you exclusive details and ideas from ‘The Wedding Of The Decade’.
The wedding ceremony took place at…
...the Astor Court Estate, which is a Beaux Arts 50-acre riverside estate located in Rhinebeck, upstate New York. Neighbours received bottles of wine for the disruption that the wedding might have caused to the otherwise sleepy town. Additionally, the sky above was declared a no-fly zone by federal
The guests arrived on Friday for the rehearsal dinner at…
...the 500-acre Grasmere Estate, an old stone barn looking over a pastoral setting, where the dress code was appropriately themed ‘country chic’. The wedding took place on Saturday 31st July at the Astor Court Estate. A small gazebo, that cost Dhs2.4 million to erect, was decorated with beautiful white roses in the shape of a horseshoe. White rows of seats flanked the white-carpetted wedding aisle. The reception had a price tag of Dhs4.4 million, including the tables and crockery at the wedding.
All 500 guests stayed at…
...the historic Beekman Arms Delamater Inn. Among the celebrities were old family friend of the Clintons, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, fashion designer Vera Wang, Madeleine Albright (the Secretary Of State during Bill Clinton’s second term as President,) and Terry McAuliffe, a former Democratic National Committee Chairman and half-brother of the former president Roger Clinton. All out-of-town attendees received
a small box of chocolates from Samuel’s and white wine
from the Clinton Vineyards called Tribute, a Seyval
Blanc 2009 vintage.
The bridal gown was made by…
...Vera Wang for both the wedding and the reception. Each dress was said to have cost no less than Dhs91,250. Chelsea wore an ivory strapless gown with a raw-edged laser-cut silk organza skirt for the interfaith ceremony and a silk tulle cross-back Grecian gown with a narrow grosgrain black belt for the reception. This was accompanied by Dhs929,357 worth of jewellery and her whopping Dhs3,650,000 engagement ring. Vera Wang also designed the bridesmaids’ dresses, which were strapless bias-cut lavender chiffon gowns with a side drape and a contrasting plum bow. Hillary wore a custom-made fuchsia Oscar de la Renta, whereas the groom and his father wore custom-made wool and mohair tuxedos designed by Burberry.
What can Three million dollars buy you…
...a five tier, 7,000 pound gluten-free wedding cake made by La Tulipe Desserts, flowers by Eva Longoria’s fave florist, a presidential party planner, porcelain port-a-potties with music piped into it, music by Jim Valli and his band (the couple’s good friend Tim Blane and his band played at the rehearsal dinner,) a reception catered by the St Regis Hotel and a rehearsal dinner catered by Blue Ribbon Restaurants. Meat-eating guests were treated to a happy serving of organic beef (thanks to Chelsea’s organic leanings!). Classy and perfectly orchestrated, the entire ceremony was conducted in the utmost of privacy, with even the wedding registry made under a fake name.
The Reception Poem
Leo Marks’s poem
‘The Life That I Have’ read as part
of the wedding ceremony
The life that I have
Is all that I have.
And the life that I have
The love that I have,
Of the life that I have,
Is yours and yours and yours.
A sleep I shall have,
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause.
For the peace of my years,
In the long green grass,
Will be yours and yours
“Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Court, surrounded by family and their close friends. We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family. On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day” father-of-the-bride, Bill Clinton
