ALMAZ BY MOMO, The Beach at JBR, Dubai
Tagine is served in the traditional earthenware pots from which it takes its name. Shaped like spinning tops, they come in various shades of blue, green and pink, making a change from the sea of stark white crockery now found in so many modern restaurants.
The decor blends North African traditions and modern interior design. Walls and floors are tiled with Moorish geometric patterns, but look up at the extraordinary latticework ceiling.
Don’t miss the mocktails. The signature drink is a blend of red berries; we also recommend the passion fruit Martini, with lychee and orange blossom for a piquant edge.
The staircase is lined with mirrors. It’s totally unexpected and you may feel as though you’ve entered a nightclub or even the set of a Bond film. You’re sure to spend a moment contemplating your reflection, not least because the UV bulbs it’s lit with make eyeballs and teeth appear green!
Staff wear traditional North African dress. These brightly coloured outfits add authenticity and extra personality.
The signature dessert is to die for. A rich and substantial molten chocolate cake, it’s served with vanilla ice cream and two kinds of praline. Amazing.
