Every year, fashionistas put in chic efforts to win in the Jaguar Style Stakes at the Dubai World Cup. And with prizes including a ladies’ watch from the new Conquest Classic collection (featuring rose gold, set with 30 diamonds and a white mother-of-pearl dial!), it's easy to see why!

The Jaguar Style Stakes judges this year are Fashion Director and Stylist Mandi Kingsbury; Fashion Week Founder and Global Events Director Simon Locke; and Radio and TV Presenter Simone Heng. Choosing the Best Dressed Woman, Best Dressed Man, Best Dressed Couple, Best Hat, Most Creative Hat and Longines Most Elegant Lady at the chic event is no easy job but someone's got to do it! Team Ahlan! chatted with the trio to find out just what they're looking for.

WOMEN'S CATEGORIES

Hats
Decorate your head, be it with a fascinator, hat, glam hairdo or hair accessory. As this is one of the few occasions where you can dress up with headgear, take advantage of it. A beautiful fascinator or hat can really take an outfit to the next level!

Dresses
*Take the opportunity to dress in brights, pastels and florals
*Show less flesh and more dress – Mandi
*
Stylistically for this season, you can choose spring’s muted sorbet palettes like apricot, lime, watermelon or florals reminiscent of the 1950s – Mandi
*
A rule in race day dressing is to dress for the elegant spring day, not the nightclub!
*Always check that you can sit comfortably in the dress, so don’t go too far above the knee if you can avoid it – Mandi
*
One of the trends I think is really brave in street style in recent seasons is mixing prints (everything from bold florals to pyjama prints) and I think this could make race day wear very interesting. I always believe in being brave, you only live once – Simone

Shoes
*Do walk around in your new heels for a few days before the event to break them in – Mandi *Always remember the shorter the skirt the lower the heel – Mandi

Accessories
*Work on combining the colour of dress and its most complementary colour in accessories. Once you have decided on your complementary accent, pair that exact hue in shoe, clutch, belt etc. Judges love to see this attention to detail – Mandi

MEN'S CATEGORIES

Suits
*Make sure you have a great fitting suit. A three-piece can be fun – Simon
*
Be a little more adventurous than normal. Introduce some color into your shirt or tie - Simon *Spring racing suits are definitely not business suits, so don’t try to get away with your 9 to 5 suit. Ideally, light colours such as grey and beige are perfect! Think Mad Men classic 1960s style silhouettes – Mandi

Shirts & Ties
*Be a little more adventurous than normal. Introduce some color into your shirt or tie – Simon

Accessories
*Wear a flower in your lapel that matches your ladies outfit – Simon
*
Guys, bring out your dandy side with a Panama or a Fedora hat.  Don’t be concerned with colour matching the hat to your overall look, but do opt for subtle links with your belt or shoes –Mandi
*
If you are not inclined to wear a flower on race day, definitely pull out a pocket square and match this to your shirt or shoes (NOT your tie) – Mandi
*
And while you are at it, why not have some fun with your socks? Reference colour here to your overall colour scheme or look. P.S guys, ladies love men wearing a beautiful pair of colourful socks on race day. You will get more attention than if you were walking a pretty puppy in the park! – Mandi
