Alia Al Shamsi
Perhaps my biggest success was the day I returned to Al Mawakeb Barsha to do a storytelling of my book, Alayah. I became a published author after Sali Publishing founder, Iman Ben Chaibah, had a look at the first draft.
The secret is passion, nothing else. To do anything, you need to have passion and the drive to achieve – everything else is dispensable.
When you do what you love you don’t work, but that also means you don’t exactly have time off, but I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s been a phenomenal journey. The Ministry of Culture has supported my book and distributed it to schools and, through the UAE chapter of Board on Books for Young People, I’ve been involved in a book-reading project across the UAE.
I structure my schedule around my son’s school day, fitting in paddle-boarding, book readings, photography lectures and projects from my office at Jumeirah Beach. However, I try to avoid routine and have thrown away to-do lists simply to live on the spur of the moment.
