Al Maha Desert Resort And Spa
Basking in the heart of the UAE's boundless desert Al Maha Desert Resort And Spa offers complete privacy in the most unique of settings.
Entering the resort takes a 15 minute drive through the vast desert terrain in one of Al Maha's robust 4x4s, complete with uber-friendly guide.
Being a five star resort you would expect the rooms to ooze opulence, but as with everything at Al Maha, even they exceeded our expectations.
Each villa is secluded to ensure complete privacy and comes complete with its own pool set against the backdrop of the red desert dunes.
Al Maha is nestled within the country's first National Park and being a conservation site expect to see wild gazelle taking a relaxing stroll right by your villa. Watching them grazing idly in the surround shrubbery serves to make you forget you're only a short drive from the bustling Sheikh Zayed Road.
In keeping with the relaxation ethos of the resort, Timeless Spa is a must. Set behind heavy wooden doors and surrounded by tranquil running waters, the spa is the ultimate way to rejuvenate and unwind.
Offering a range of treatments which incorporate single and double treatment rooms, this is a perfect way to start or even round off your day. The spa also has a sauna, steamroom, Jacuzzi as well as offering daily yoga classes.
If you're after something more outdoorsy, but find sun-worshipping tedious, Al Maha offers a range of desert pursuits to guests. We loved the camel trekking at dusk - a truly Arabian adventure and a must for anyone visiting the UAE. Others include, nature walks, wildlife drives, archery, falconry and horse riding.
The resort offers numerous dinner options, including dune dining (under the stars in the magical stillness of the Arabian desert); In-suite dining; the resort's restaurant and On Deck dining, which was our preference.
Relaxing and incomparably intimate, guests can enjoy the five star menu by their villa pool. Dinner comes with or without the option of a waiter, but if you're visiting with your beau, we say, definitely go without.
Al Maha truly is a one-of-a-kind experience and one that shouldn't be missed.
