Al Ghurair Centre is launching an initiative for all artists, craftsmen and sculptors of the UAE. Supported by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority the centre calls out all of those residents, who have a creative flare and passion for art, to submit their unique concepts for a permanent, site-specific sculpture or an original piece of art, which will be placed in and around the prominent shopping complex in Deira.
The competition will act as an emerging platform for undiscovered talent, where in participants can submit their work according to their interpretation of the set theme, “some things change, some things stay the same”. The judges will shortlist the entries in October, based on creativity levels and relevance to the UAE’s culture and history. A selected list of finalists will then be announced in November and the official installation will be publically unveiled in March 2015.
Apart from offering an all round social and personal experience, the initiative offers participants an exclusive chance to meet and greet industry experts such as, Sheikha Wafa Hasher Al Maktoum, an established photographer and business woman, Patricia Millns, a successful artist whose work has been see in prestigious public collections worldwide, Ebitsam Abdul Aziz, a proud member of the Emirates Fine Art Society and Colin Reaney, an Associate Professor of sculpture at the American University of Dubai.
The long term intention of the Public Art Commission is to support and promote the work of UAE based artists in the urban hub of the city, whilst enhancing the scenic beauty of the local spaces.
So get your arts and crafts gear out and get to it, this might just be the one chance to present your artsy side.
