Ahlan! News Editor JJ Anisiobi followed the example set by dozens of celeberties in taking on the ALS ice bucket challenge on Tuesday afternoon.
Granted, in the near 50 degree heat of the UAE, the cooling ice-filled bucket of water could have been a refreshing change, but JJ is certain that didn’t make it any easier!
Dressed in his normal work attire our News Editor looked more than a little nervous before taking his seat for the challenge. With a quick supportive hug from Ahlan! Group Editor Sarah Hymers, Fashion Editor Lindsay Judge and Picture Editor Catriona Rigney poured a huge box of icy water over our JJ.
Before his epic soaking, JJ nominated four other people to take up the ALS ic bucket challenge. The nominees are Matt Fortune of What’s On magazine, Virgin Radio Breakfast host Kris Fade, magician David Blaine who is in the UAE this weekend, and Ahlan! Group Editor Sarah Hymers.
The ice bucket challenge was created by the ALS Association, who are working to fight Amyotrophic lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease or Motor Neurone Disease. The actual challenge is to film yourself getting covered in a bucket full of ice water, post the video on social media and then nominate someone else to do the same. Everyone who completes the challenge is also required to donate money to an ALS charity, and those who don’t want to get wet should donate a larger donation in the region of $100.
So far the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, Bill Gates, Robert Downey Jr, Gwen Stefani, Lady Gaga, Charlie Sheen, Michael Zuckerberg and Taylor Swift and Rita Ora have all joined in the good cause.
