Rumour has it that Adele is not just unhappy that Rebel Wilson is set to play her onscreen, but she’s actually offended that the larger-than-life actress has even been considered for the role.
Adele Says No
Adele has shut down rumours that loudmouth Rebel is set to play her in a big-screen adaptation of the singer’s life. Speaking to her audience at London’s O2 Arena last Monday the songstress hit out at the suggestion the comic actress would play her in a movie, because she is also a “plus-sized” woman. The 27-year-old Hello singer seemed upset at the suggestion, saying that the Perfect Pitch actress would need her permission before any casting decisions for the proposed biopic went ahead. “I’ve heard there are rumours that Rebel Wilson will be playing me in a movie. Let’s see if that turns out to be true,” she told the crowd. “Just because I’m plus-sized doesn’t mean she’s playing me,” the incensed star added. “You don’t get to make a film without my permission. Shut up. There’s no film.”
Wilson Wants The Part?
Adele killed off the rumours following reports by British newspaper Daily Star, which said the Australian actress wanted to play the singer in a movie about her rise to fame from humble beginnings. “Rebel has always wanted to prove she can cut it as a serious actress,” a source allegedly told the paper. “This is going to be a huge challenge for her because Adele is a legend at the peak of her popularity.” Adele may have taken offence at the suggestion that Rebel, 36, would be able to “sound like her in the movie with a little technical wizardry.” In what seemed like a direct reply to the news that the Bridesmaids star was desperate for her blessing, it seems like Adele is keen to take the upper hand.
Rebel’s Too Terrible
Several members of the public have agreed with Adele that Rebel, who claims she’s not been offered a role as the singer, isn’t the right choice. One person posted: “Adele is plus-sized but Rebel is obese. If she loses weight to play Adele it would be good for her health as well as her career. Nothing wrong with a bit of extra weight.” Another quipped: “Rebel Wilson has a pretty face but Adele is more beautiful and thinner than her. Not a very suitable choice,” and one fan wrote: “That would be embarrassing. Rebel is a terrible actress.”
